From a Volvo enthusiast who has had two P80s and two P2 cars, this is my opinion. The P2 has a more robust door open guide, a bit better handling, and my current 2004 P2 still has NO squeaks or rattles even after 186K of driving. My 98 V70 Cross Country was the worst with interior squeaks. I would get 2004-2007 V70 (2006-2007 if automatic because of 6speed trans) (facelift looks better and are a bit trouble free). Turbo engines are pretty good but 2.4i 170hp is not that bad. Automatics are great aswell, manuals even better. A few questions about P80 V70s. So, it's finally happening: I'm looking at buying my own Volvo. Specifically, a P80 V70. I'm currently looking at a 2.5 10v with automatic gearbox, and I think I like it. It'd be fantastic if I could get one with a turbo, but as I also want an automatic gearbox, that's nearly impossible to get for €2000 or less.

I have not driven both; I daily a slightly modified '98 V70 T5 with 151k and two years of reading forums persuades me that the P80 is more reliable and the '98 in particular is the simplest, most reliable, and best P80 platform for mods.
